I've had  four different Epsons in my office over the last ten years  
(I've bought new ones not because the old ones died, but instead  
because I wanted new features and inks offered by the newer models);  
like many photographers I wouldn't even consider any other brand.  
However, I do give them regular workouts.

It wouldn't hurt to dig around the Epson web site to make sure you  
have the last software /drivers and maybe you should swap out the  
firewire or whatever other connector you're using.  There is an Epson  
repair facility near Boston. Are you still under warranty?
