AFAIK, the Apple OS disks that come with a specific model (e.g. the 10.4 
disks that came with a Powerbook) will only install on that model.

However, if you have a "retail" version of an OS Upgrade, then it will 
install on any Mac that was available at the time you purchased it.

Of course, what the installer will let you do and what is legal are 
different things -- the regular retail version is licensed for one Mac, 
even though you can physically install it on more than one.
