The only thing I remember is that each time I changed animals (10.2 >  
10.3, 10.3 > 10.4) I've lost email.  So, beware.

Of course you should always back up before you do anything major, but  
of course I had not.

I don't know if it is a problem with all email programs. I use the  
Mail application that came free with the OS. And, I didn't lose ALL  
my email, only what was in my "in" box. Someone more geeky can  
probably tell you why. Probably that the new OS replaced the old  
(full) in box with a new (empty) one.

So, before you do this at least go in and back up the folder that  
holds your email inbox.  Of course, that folder is going to have a  
different name on each computer based on your particular user name  
and the name on your email account. THe path to mine is

Users> michelestapleton > library> mail> POP- 
mstapleton at michelestapleton.com

It didn't lose any mail in other folders, so I suspect you could also  
transfer the entire contents of your inbox to a new named folder.
