[DEMUG] "Refresh" file view?

The advice I've received so far has been appreciated but ineffective.
Apparently the "sort" View option is only available in Leopard, and
moving from one folder to another has no effect -- only explicitly
selecting the file, to force a GetInfo, makes the Finder acknowledge the
true modified date.  A Select-All and then unselecting seems to also
work, but this doesn't explain why the Finder was auto-updating until a
few days ago.  Any other ideas that wouldn't require reinstalling?  Thanks.
