[DEMUG] "Refresh" file view?

I was doing some heavy work for several days in the Finder with a set of 
files, and I found the single-pane view of them fairly trustworthy in 
immediately updating their "modified dates", so that, when sorting by 
that column, the latest-modified file would immediately pop to the top 
of the list.

However, in the last few days I've noticed that that list does NOT 
update itself, and unless one goes to the multiple-pane display and 
clicks on a file, which forces a GetInfo and updates that one file in 
the single-pane view, the single pane view doesn't get updated at all.

I'm not sure why this has changed on my machine in the last several 
days.  In Windows, the updated file is automatically displayed at the 
bottom of the list, but can be brought to its proper place using the 
View menu's Refresh option, but I can't find anything like that in OS/X.
