Tim,

Your current problem looks like one of your backlights has failed.
There are two interesting CCL
tube lights behind the display which illuminate it, the top one has
failed on your display.

I'm assuming this is the newer DVI aluminum display, is it HD? What
size is it? n If it was an older ADC acrylic display I'd say that
you were taxing your computer's power supply, making it
shutdown. Maybe the display's PS is failing, maybe your computer's
PS is failing. Is your
computer pretty loaded with power sucking/heat creating interfaces or
disk drives?

The USB/Firewire interfaces on the display may not be handling
startup/shutdown sleep/awake up properly, causing them to wake the
computer up when they shouldn't, or keeping it awake.
They don't usually make them shutdown/fall asleep unless you have a
bad keyboard with a
power on/off switch or sleep/wake button.

More information on your exact configuration would be helpfull.

I've never dealt with portland, but there is Capital Computing in
Augusta. They do a lot of Mac
repairs, but they may not be authorized to repair your display.

Good Luck, Jim.
